Types of Bolts

Industrial bolts are mechanical fasteners designed to securely join two or more components together, typically used with nuts and washers to create strong and reliable connections. Unlike screws that are often installed directly into threaded holes, bolts are commonly used in applications where high clamping force, structural stability and easy assembly or disassembly are required. Industrial bolts are widely used in machinery, construction, automotive, energy, transportation and other industrial applications.

Industrial bolts are available in various designs, materials and specifications to meet different application requirements. Common types include hex bolts, flange bolts, carriage bolts, anchor bolts, socket head bolts, shoulder bolts and customized bolts. Depending on the working environment and performance requirements, bolts can be manufactured from materials such as stainless steel, carbon steel, alloy steel, brass and aluminum, with different surface treatments available to improve corrosion resistance and durability.

Industrial Bolt Manufacturing Process:

Our industrial bolts are manufactured through advanced production processes to ensure precise dimensions, reliable mechanical performance and consistent quality. Depending on bolt type, material and customer requirements, we utilize cold heading, forging, thread rolling, CNC machining and other precision manufacturing technologies to produce both standard and customized bolts.

The manufacturing process begins with raw material inspection and preparation, followed by forming, machining, threading, surface treatment and final quality inspection. Cold heading is used for efficient production of standard bolts with high consistency, while CNC machining and precision processing allow us to manufacture special bolts with complex designs and tight tolerances. Each production stage is carefully controlled to meet international standards and customer specifications.

1. Raw Material Preparation & Wire Drawing

The bolt manufacturing process starts with high-quality steel wire rods selected according to material specifications and customer requirements. The raw materials are processed through wire drawing to achieve accurate diameter, improved surface quality, and consistent material properties, providing a reliable foundation for bolt forming.

2. Cold Heading / Hot Forging Process

According to bolt size, material, and design requirements, bolts are produced through cold heading or hot forging processes. Cold heading is widely used for standard bolts due to its high production efficiency and excellent mechanical performance, while hot forging is suitable for large-diameter bolts and special fasteners requiring higher forming capacity.

3. Secondary Machining Process (If Required)

For customized bolts, special-shaped bolts, or products requiring tight tolerances, secondary machining is performed after forging. CNC turning, milling, drilling, and other precision machining processes ensure accurate dimensions, complex features, and customized specifications.

4. Thread Rolling Process

Threads are manufactured through advanced thread rolling equipment to achieve precise thread dimensions. Compared with cutting methods, thread rolling improves thread durability and enhances the mechanical performance of bolts.

5. Heat Treatment Process

Heat treatment, including quenching and tempering, is carried out according to bolt grades and performance requirements. This process improves hardness, tensile strength, yield strength, and overall mechanical properties to ensure bolts meet international standards.

6. Surface Treatment & Coating

Various surface treatments are available to improve corrosion resistance and service life, including zinc plating, hot-dip galvanizing, black oxide, Dacromet/Geomet coating, and other customized finishes. Surface treatment is selected according to application environments and customer requirements.

7. Quality Inspection & Testing

Strict quality control is implemented throughout the manufacturing process. Bolts are inspected through dimensional measurement, thread inspection, hardness testing, tensile testing, and material analysis to ensure compliance with DIN, ISO, ASTM, ANSI, and customer specifications.

8. Packaging & Delivery

After final inspection, finished bolts are carefully packed according to customer requirements. Customized packaging, labeling, cartons, and pallets are available to ensure safe transportation and efficient handling during delivery.
