A4-80 Stainless Steel Threaded Rods

A4-80 Stainless Steel Threaded Rod is a fully threaded fastening component manufactured from corrosion-resistant austenitic stainless steel for demanding fastening and installation applications. The continuous external thread allows nuts and washers to be positioned along the rod, providing flexibility when assembling components with different thicknesses or connection distances.

The A4 designation identifies the stainless steel group, while the 80 property class specifies a minimum tensile strength of 800 MPa. This combination provides high mechanical strength together with enhanced corrosion resistance, making A4-80 threaded rod suitable for applications exposed to moisture, chloride-containing environments, chemicals, and other demanding service conditions. A4-80 threaded rods are available in metric diameters, thread pitches, and lengths to meet different assembly requirements. Matching A4 stainless steel nuts and washers can also be supplied to create a complete corrosion-resistant fastening system, with custom dimensions, quantities, and packaging available for project requirements.

Specification:

A4-80 stainless steel threaded rods are specified as corrosion-resistant stainless steel studs under ISO 3506-1. The A4 stainless steel group is classified within the austenitic stainless steel fastener system, while property class 80 specifies a minimum tensile strength of 800 MPa. Mechanical requirements are determined according to ISO 3506-1 for the applicable nominal diameter and property class. The threaded rods use ISO metric threads with the basic thread profile according to ISO 68-1. Nominal diameter and pitch combinations are selected according to ISO 261, covering standard coarse and fine metric thread configurations. For thread tolerances, ISO 965-1 and ISO 965-2 define the applicable tolerance system; for standard external metric fastening threads, 6g is a commonly specified tolerance class.

Production dimensions, thread pitch, tolerance, straightness, length, and surface condition can be controlled according to the applicable product specification or customer drawing. For production batches, material certificates and Mill Test Reports can be provided to verify material identification and applicable chemical and mechanical requirements.

Chemical Composition:

A4-80 stainless steel threaded rods are manufactured from austenitic stainless steel within the A4 grade specified by ISO 3506-1:2020. The standard defines the chemical composition by cast analysis, with limits for carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, chromium, molybdenum, nickel, copper, and nitrogen.

For the A4 grade, ISO 3506-1 specifies maximum carbon of 0.08%, silicon of 1.00%, manganese of 2.00%, phosphorus of 0.045%, and sulfur of 0.030%. Chromium is specified at 16.0–18.5%, molybdenum at 2.0–3.0%, and nickel at 10.0–15.0%. These alloying elements form the material specification used to identify the A4 stainless steel group.

Chemical composition is verified from the material heat or batch documentation. For production orders, a Mill Test Report (MTR) can be provided to show the actual chemical analysis of the supplied material and maintain material traceability.

Mechanical Proeprty:

The mechanical properties of A4-80 threaded rods are specified by ISO 3506-1:2020. The “A4” designation identifies the stainless steel grade, while “80” identifies the property class. For A4-80 fasteners, the minimum tensile strength is 800 MPa and the minimum 0.2% proof stress is 600 MPa.

The standard also specifies a minimum elongation of 0.3d, where d is the nominal thread diameter. These requirements are used to evaluate the strength and ductility of the finished fastener. Because A4-80 achieves its higher strength through cold working, the manufacturing condition is important when controlling the required mechanical properties.

Application of A4-80 Threaded Rod:

Marine Equipment & Offshore Installations

A4-80 threaded rods are used for marine equipment, offshore installations, dock systems, boat fittings, and coastal structures where fastening components may be exposed to moisture and salt-laden air. They are suitable for brackets, supports, mounting points, and other threaded connections requiring stainless steel components.

Chemical Processing & Piping Systems

A4-80 threaded rods can be used in chemical processing equipment, tanks, pipe support systems, valves, brackets, and fabricated process assemblies. The A4 stainless steel grade provides a corrosion-resistant fastening option, while the A4-80 property class provides a minimum tensile strength of 800 MPa.

Food Processing Machinery

For food processing machinery, conveyors, equipment frames, tanks, production lines, and support structures, A4-80 threaded rods provide stainless steel fastening for assemblies exposed to moisture and frequent cleaning. The continuous thread also allows flexible positioning of nuts and washers during installation.
