A2-70 Stainless Steel Threaded Rod
A2-70 Stainless Steel Threaded Rod is a metric fully threaded fastening component made from corrosion-resistant austenitic stainless steel. The continuous external thread allows the rod to be cut or assembled to different lengths, making it practical for connections where a standard bolt length is not suitable. The A2 designation identifies the stainless steel group, while 70 indicates a minimum tensile strength of 700 MPa. This combination provides a useful balance between corrosion resistance and mechanical strength for general industrial fastening.
A2-70 threaded rods are available in different metric diameters and lengths and can be supplied with the required thread pitch, dimensional tolerances, packaging, and surface condition. They can be used with matching stainless steel nuts and washers to create adjustable or extended-length fastening assemblies.

Specification:
A2-70 stainless steel threaded rods are manufactured from corrosion-resistant austenitic stainless steel and classified according to the stainless steel fastener system specified in ISO 3506-1. The A2 designation identifies the stainless steel group, while the 70 property class indicates a minimum tensile strength of 700 MPa.
For A2-70 fasteners, the mechanical requirements include minimum tensile strength, proof load, and elongation as specified by the applicable property class. The threaded rod is supplied with metric threads, with the thread diameter and pitch selected according to the required application. Thread tolerances can be provided according to the applicable product specification or customer drawing.

Chemical Composition:
A2-70 threaded rods are manufactured from austenitic stainless steel within the A2 group specified for stainless steel fasteners. The chemical composition controls the material’s corrosion resistance, metallurgical structure, and suitability for general fastening applications. Typical elements include chromium, nickel, carbon, manganese, silicon, phosphorus, and sulfur, with the applicable limits determined by the relevant stainless steel material and fastener standard.
For production orders, the actual chemical composition can be verified through a Mill Test Report (MTR) or material certificate. This provides batch-specific values rather than relying only on nominal material designations.
| Steel Group | Steel Group | C | Si | Mn | P | S | Cr | Mo | Ni | Cu |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Austenitic | A2 | ≤0.1 | ≤1 | ≤2 | ≤0.05 | ≤0.03 | 15-20 | - | 8-19 | ≤4 |
Mechanical Property:
The A2-70 designation combines the A2 stainless steel group with a 70 strength class. For threaded fasteners, the 70 class specifies a minimum tensile strength of 700 MPa, while the applicable standard also defines requirements for proof load, elongation, and other mechanical characteristics.
| Steel Group | Steel Group | Property Class | Tensile strength | Stress at 0,2 % permanent strain | Elongation after fracture |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Austenitic | A2 | 70 | ≥700MPA | ≥450MPA | ≥0.4d |
Production Process:
1. Material Preparation and Cold Working
The production starts with A2 stainless steel material selected according to the required chemical composition and product specification. The material is subjected to controlled cold working to increase its strength through work hardening. This process is particularly important for A2-70 threaded rods because the required mechanical properties are achieved through the appropriate cold-worked condition of the stainless steel.
2. Thread Rolling
After the material reaches the required condition, the external thread is formed by thread rolling. Rolling forms the thread profile by displacing material rather than removing it, allowing the thread to be produced with consistent pitch, diameter, and surface quality. The rolling process is controlled according to the specified thread size and pitch.
3. Dimensional and Thread Inspection
After thread rolling, each production batch is checked for the specified dimensions and thread requirements. Inspection include overall length, nominal diameter, thread pitch, thread profile, and thread fit. These checks help ensure that the threaded rod can be properly assembled with the corresponding stainless steel nuts and other mating components.
4. Cleaning and Final Preparation
After dimensional and thread inspection, the finished threaded rods are cleaned to remove processing residues and surface contaminants. The rods are then subjected to final visual inspection before packaging. Packaging can be adapted to the order quantity, rod length, and customer handling requirements to help prevent thread damage during storage and transportation.
Applications of A2-70 Stainless Steel Threaded Rod
Marine and Coastal Equipment
The corrosion-resistant stainless steel construction makes A2-70 threaded rod suitable for marine equipment, coastal installations, boat fittings, support structures, and outdoor fastening systems where exposure to moisture and salt-containing environments needs to be considered. Material and surface requirements can be selected according to the actual service environment.
Chemical and Process Equipment
A2-70 threaded rods can be supplied for chemical processing equipment, pipe supports, tanks, brackets, and process installations where stainless steel fastening components are required. The appropriate stainless steel specification should be selected according to the chemicals, temperature, concentration, and other conditions involved.
Food Processing Equipment
For food processing machinery, equipment frames, conveyors, tanks, and installation systems, A2-70 stainless steel threaded rod provides a corrosion-resistant fastening option with a continuous thread for flexible assembly. Stainless steel surfaces are also suitable for applications where cleanability and resistance to moisture are important considerations.
