ASME B18.6.3 Cross Recessed Pan Head Self Tapping Screw
ASME B18.6.3 Cross Recessed Pan Head Self Tapping Screws combine a rounded pan head with a cross-shaped drive recess for installation using a matching screwdriver or power driver. The head remains above the mounting surface, providing a visible bearing area, while the tapping thread forms a mating thread in suitable materials. This configuration is commonly used in sheet metal fabrication, electrical equipment, and component assemblies where convenient tool access and a non-countersunk head are preferred.
Our production process begins with cold heading, where the pan head and cross recess are formed together, followed by thread rolling to produce the required thread profile. We pay close attention to head dimensions, recess geometry, and thread accuracy to ensure proper fit and driver engagement. Material grades are verified against order specifications, and heat treatment is controlled to achieve the required mechanical properties. As an ISO 9001-certified company, we coordinate production and quality checks with our manufacturing partners to meet the specified dimensional, mechanical, and surface finish requirements.

Mechanical Property:
Tapping Screws must withstand the stresses generated during installation while maintaining the integrity of the head, drive recess, and threaded section. Hardness and torsional strength are important factors in evaluating their resistance to breakage as the threads engage with the workpiece.
SAE J933 – Carbon Steel Self-Tapping Screws
For carbon steel cross recessed pan head self-tapping screws, hardness and torsional strength are important to withstand installation torque without premature failure. The cold-formed cross recess must remain suitable for engagement with the matching driver, while the screw body must resist breakage as the tapping threads enter the workpiece.
ISO 3506-4 – Stainless Steel Self-Tapping Screws
Stainless steel cross recessed pan head self-tapping screws are intended for applications where fastening performance and corrosion resistance must be considered together. Their mechanical characteristics depend on the stainless steel grade and applicable property requirements.
