ASME B18.3 Cone Point Set Socket Screws

ASME B18.3 cone point socket set screws have a tapered, cone-shaped tip that can engage with a preformed indentation in a mating component. This design helps maintain the relative position of assembled parts and is particularly useful in applications where accurate positioning and resistance to lateral movement are important. With an internal hex drive, these screws can be installed in confined spaces where conventional external drive fasteners may be less convenient.

We supply cone point socket set screws for mechanical assemblies, fixtures, shafts, and adjustment mechanisms. Available options can include different thread sizes, lengths, materials, and surface finishes to suit specific design requirements. Our manufacturing processes include cold heading, thread rolling, and dimensional inspection to support consistent product quality across production batches.

Mechanical Property:

ASTM F912 — Alloy Steel Cone Point Set Screws

ASTM F912 specifies the requirements for quenched and tempered alloy steel socket set screws, including hardness, torque, and torsional strength. The screws have a hardness range of 45–53 HRC and correspond to property class 45H under ISO 898-5. They are intended primarily for compression applications. The following table summarizes the relevant mechanical property requirements for alloy steel cone point set screws.

ASTM F880 — Stainless Steel Cone Point Set Screws

ASTM F880 covers austenitic stainless steel socket set screws and specifies requirements for material composition, torque performance, hardness, and corrosion resistance.  These requirements help evaluate the suitability of cone point set screws for applications where corrosion resistance and reliable installation performance are important.
