Slotted Shoulder Screws

Slotted Shoulder Screws combine a slotted cheese head with a precisely defined shoulder, allowing the screw to serve as both a fastening element and a locating or spacing component. The shoulder provides a consistent diameter and controlled position between assembled parts, making it useful where the relationship between components needs to be maintained accurately.

Unlike a conventional screw, the shoulder can act as a bearing or positioning surface while the threaded section provides the clamping function. This design makes the screw suitable for applications where components need to be aligned, spaced, pivoted, or secured without relying entirely on the thread to locate the parts. Manufactured according to GB/T 830-1988, these screws are available in metric sizes from M1.6 to M10. We can supply different materials, lengths, surface finishes, and customized dimensions according to the requirements of the assembly or customer drawings.

Specification:

Slotted Shoulder Screws are defined by the relationship between the threaded section and the unthreaded shoulder. The shoulder provides a controlled diameter and bearing surface, while the threaded section is used to secure the assembled components. This construction allows the screw to provide both fastening and positioning functions within the same component.

GB/T 830-1988 specifies the main dimensions of the screw, including the thread diameter, shoulder diameter, shoulder length, head diameter, head height, and overall length. The standard covers metric sizes from M1.6 to M10. Depending on the application, we can supply Slotted Shoulder Screws in carbon steel or stainless steel, including A1, A2, and A4 grades. Plain, plated, and other surface finishes are available, while non-standard shoulder lengths, diameters, thread lengths, and overall dimensions can be produced according to customer drawings.

Dimension Chart of Slotted Shoulder Screws:

The shoulder is the key dimensional feature of this screw, so selecting the correct shoulder diameter and shoulder length is just as important as choosing the thread size. The shoulder provides the working surface between assembled components, while the threaded section provides the required clamping force.

Application of Slotted Shoulder Screws:

Positioning and Alignment

The unthreaded shoulder can provide a consistent locating diameter between components, making the screw useful where parts need to remain aligned rather than being positioned solely by the thread.

Spacing and Clearance

The shoulder can also act as a defined spacer between assembled parts. This helps maintain a controlled gap or prevent two components from being clamped directly against each other.

Pivoting and Bearing Points

Where the shoulder is used as the working surface, the screw can serve as a small pivot or bearing point for components that need controlled movement around the screw axis. The exact suitability depends on the shoulder diameter, length, material, and load conditions.
